Purchasing a diamond
The value of a diamond is defined by four elements commonly referred to as the 4 C’s of diamond buying. They are the cut, color, clarity, and carat weight. The value of the 4 C’s combined is what established a diamond’s price. It is important to know because people put a different emphasis on what is important to them. Some customers are more concerned with carat weight, while some invest more into a diamonds cut.

The diamonds cut
For most people this is the most important element when purchasing a diamond. A diamond’s cut is what gives it the brilliance and shine people have come to expect. The cut is based on a mathematical formula that reflects the number of facets and the depth of the diamond. A properly cut diamond will reflect, and refract light.

The diamonds color
Diamonds come in a large variety of colors! This tends to surprise most people but the most valuable diamonds are colorless. Perfect colorless diamonds are extremely rare in nature and are expensive as well. Diamonds range from colorless known as a (d) all the way down to a (z). The further down the lettering scale the more yellow the diamond will appear. Color is determined by putting the diamond on a pure white surface and comparing the contrast. Bockman Brothers Jewerly carries diamonds ranging from G down to H.

The diamonds carat
A carat is 200 milligrams, and there is 142 carats in an ounce. A carat always refers to a diamonds weight and not the size. A one carat diamond will have one hundred points. Larger diamonds are rarer in nature and because of that they generally have a greater value per carat than smaller diamonds.

The clarity of a diamond

Slight imperfections affect the clarity of the stone by blocking the passage of light through the diamond. Imperfections can be spots, lines, or bubbles also known as inclusions. The higher the clarity level of a diamond the more valuable it will be.
